A few years into our marriage, we were ready to start a family. After years of struggling through infertility and the stillbirth of our first child, we were blessed with the triplets. During those years of infertility Amanda mentioned adoption; however, Charlie made it clear that was not an option. Though she never mentioned it again, Amanda prayed that if it was God’s will, He would change Charlie’s heart and mind.
Over the years, God opened doors for us to go on multiple mission trips to work with orphans in Russia and Mexico. It was through these trips that God began to soften Charlie’s heart. During this time, God continually led Charlie to passages revealing His heart for the fatherless, other passages pointing to our own adoption through faith in Christ Jesus; as well as burdening his heart for the unborn. In 2017, after hearing a news report about the overrun foster system in Texas and the Governor asking for churches to step up and fulfill James 1:27, Charlie finally surrendered to the Lord, came home and said, “Amanda, I think God is calling us to foster or adopt.”
After spending much time in prayer about the right path for our family, we are excited to be pursuing domestic infant adoption through Legacy Adoption Services. The triplets, Charley, Malachi, and Bear (age 10), and Evie (age 6) are also excited for our family to grow.
