Our family journey with adoption began decades ago, when Krista’s parents adopted her! More recently, when we could not have biological children, our natural progression was to adopt a child of our own. Through a long and difficult journey to adopt our first child, we learned to love and endure. Our adoption journey with our first child was a clear reminder of how God truly works for the good of those who love Him, and that God truly has a plan for each and every one of us. In 2016, we were blessed with the most inquisitive, delightful child.
For many years, we thought our family was complete with Caroline. Our lives were centered around our faith and family, and our focus was on the Lord and His calling. We are blessed to live in a rural community that values family above all, and where faith is a daily part of the community’s way of life. Not many weeks after we heeded our calling and made the joyful decision to pursue a second domestic infant adoption, Caroline showed us true child-like faith. She did not know about our plans to adopt again, but said, “Mommy, I really want a baby brother or baby sister.” After advising her to pray to Jesus and ask Him if it’s his will that He give us a baby to love, she bowed her head, said a quiet prayer, and announced to me “I prayed to Jesus for a baby sister wrapped in a pink blanket! And he’s going to give me one!” A couple of weeks later, she was again talking about “my baby girl in a pink blanket that I asked Jesus for.” I asked her “What if it’s a baby boy?” Her response? “No Mom, I asked for a baby girl and Jesus listens to our prayers.”
Her statement is correct – Jesus listens to our prayers (and sometimes says no, or modifies those requests so sweetly prayed by a four year old). It is our prayer that we can bring another child – sister or brother! – into our home to share this love of Jesus with, to guide to have the same unwavering faith that his/her big sister had at the tender age of 4, so this child can also grow in faith and know and love our Heavenly Father, too. We know that our adoption journey is full of question marks and unknowns – but we know without a doubt that “Jesus listens to our prayers” and He knows what is best for our family. We walk by faith and take steps to allow Him to guide us in our journey so that we can fulfill His calling for our family, no matter how difficult the journey. Please join us in our prayers for peace and comfort as we embark on this journey again, for endurance for what lies ahead, and for grace and love to be shared with all we encounter.
With grateful hearts, we thank you for considering donating to our adoption journey!
