Being parents has always been a calling that we knew deep within our hearts we were destined for. The joy we experienced upon the arrival of our biological daughter in 2015 surpassed all expectations of this calling. Parenthood, as we found out, is even more extraordinary than we could have ever imagined. However, our Heavenly Father had different plans for us than to be on the path of expanding our family biologically. We were left with a sense of longing and an unfulfilled desire for a larger brood. Yet we were still inspired to grow our family by the scriptures “Behold, children are a heritage of the Lord” (Psalm 127:3) and “Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receives me” (Mark 9:37).
So, following our relocation to Alaska in 2022, we embarked upon the journey of adoption to provide a loving home to a child in need. After months of research and attuning our hearts to the needs of God’s children, we committed ourselves to undertaking the heavy, yet deeply rewarding endeavor of navigating the adoption process. We recognized that it was not merely about satisfying our personal yearning for parenthood, but also about extending a compassionate hand to those little souls who need refuge in a secure and loving home. Admittedly, we grappled with the fear of fully loving a non-biological child. Our fears were overcome when we were matched with a baby boy whose arrival would forever transform the trajectory of our lives.
The night before his birth, we anxiously made our way to the hospital two hours away on the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska. Overwhelmed by the excitement of finally growing our family. Despite the lack of sleep, the sight of our beautiful baby boy for the very first time on that February morning received all fears. In that sacred moment of connection, as we cradled him tenderly in our embrace, we found a boundless love bestowed upon us by our Heavenly Father.
Throughout the labyrinth of this adoption journey, we have become aware of a profound truth: that God, in His infinite wisdom, holds an intricate plan for each and every individual to experience deep and spiritual love. Even when the path we envisioned or yearned for takes an unexpected detour, we have come to see that His divine plan unfailingly steers us towards what is ultimately best for our lives. The joy and tribulation that accompanied our voyage into parenthood, be it through biological means or the marvel of adoption, has served as a testament to the power of faith, resilience, and the force of love.
